“Healing comes from taking responsibility: to realize that it is you – and no one else – that creates your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions.” Peter Shepherd Tweet

The approaches I use

My work is strategy based, meaning I am an action based counsellor.  Not only does this involve listening, clarifying, providing compassion and understanding and being non-judgmental and non- critical, but also working with the client to discover options that will work for them.

Based on the above, I suggest strategies that the client will take away and practice.  This involves first acknowledging and then rejecting old, unuseful habits and replacing these habits with new, more effective and acceptable behaviour.  Courage and patience is required because habits are learned from childhoodand and are ingrained.  To recognise these as unuseful, and to change them, takes time and much effort.

You will not be alone – I am there for guidance and reassurance.  I am willing to take phone calls or emails between sessions when the client is having difficulty adapting.

My methods are many and varied depending on the particular issue and the personalities of the client.  No two clients, or their circumstances, are the same, so one approach does not fit all.

If a client has a particular appraoch in mind I am willing to discuss this when the appointment is being made.
