Areas of Expertise

RELATIONSHIP  COUNSELLING:  couples – including same sex couples,  families, step-families and individuals.

The majority of my work is relationship counselling and the success rate in this area is high, working on the couple’s desired goals.  Though, it’s fair to say that the outcome does not always suit both parties because nothing in life can be guaranteed.   In the latter instance care is taken to safeguard the emotional state of the person whose goals have not been reached.

HEALTH COACHING:  Mental health is the basis of our personal world.  When we think confidently we feel confident and we act confident.  Diffident thinking causes diffident feelings causes diffident behaviour.  We are how we think.  My work teaches how to be the best person we want to be by understanding our innermost thoughts.

PRECOMMITMENT  COUNSELLING:  Why not sort through issues prior to committment?  These sessions consist of exploration of the couple’s values, spirituality and goals.

SEPARATION COUNSELLING:  This is treading unknown territory for many couples.  Hopes and dreams are lost and reality seems unreachable.  Counselling assists separated couples to communicate their needs by use of practicalities rather than emotion.

LOSS and GRIEF :   I stress that when one is looking for grief counselling they be certain the professional they engage has experienced personal loss.  I fail to see how any professional without personal experience, no matter how extensively educated,  can possibly give the client what they want and need in such an emotionally demanding time.  I am such a person and I can give the client what they need on an emotional and practical level.

STRESS:  Stress does not necessarily have to be diagnosed professionally as either depression or anxiety.  Stress can be felt on different levels, depending on individual circumstances.  Although specific symptoms can be the same, everyone’s stress is their experience, pertaining just to them.  In counselling this is explored with the individual’s backround, environment and circumstances in mind.
