“My personal goal is to help clients to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout the counselling session.  It’s true that counselling can be a daunting experience.  Expectations are high, for both client and counsellor, for the session to provide a useful, clear and specific outcome.  Sometimes not all parties will get what they want from counselling – disappointments can occur- but together we will discuss the presenting issues in a respectful manner, considering all points of view.”

“At Shirley Cornish Counselling, all clients are encouraged to provide input by expressing their needs in a trustworthy and agreeable manner.  In turn I will provide a  safe and supportive environment and act as mediator when necessary”.

“My style includes strategies that encourage clients to be proactive, rather than reactive to circumstances.  Clients will be asked to consider identifying and changing old unuseful habits that are preventing them from achieving personal goals.  Sometimes counselling can be confronting but I will endeavour to provide understanding and compassion, enabling the client to process these unpleasant realities”.
